Foster Coordinator
The foster coordinator position is a board position with a high level of responsibility that is intended to act as a liaison between the foster homes and the MoKan Greyhound Adoption board of directors. The MoKan Greyhound Adoption Board of Directors is a working board, not a governing board.
Responsibilities as Foster Coordinator:
• Solicit new foster homes by getting to know the volunteers and talking to them about the joys and benefits of being a foster home.
• Have new foster homes submit a fostering application, read the manual and submit a signed waiver.
• Work with the dog manager to know when homes will be needed and to ensure that the appropriate dogs are going into the appropriate foster homes. Communicate with those homes to ensure there are no conflicts or concerns with that dog.
• Ensure that foster homes are using the foster home personality profile online
• Manage the crate library by labeling the crates and tracking which foster homes have which crates and tracking the check out and check in dates. Ensuring that current foster homes have MoKan Greyhound Adoption foster crates if they need them and that crates held by inactive foster homes are moved back into the crate library.
• Distribute or facilitate the distribution of heartworm meds, flea treatment and food when requested. Be the liaison between the treasurer and the foster home when a foster family needs reimbursement for food.
• Facilitate medical appointments (along with the board) with the foster homes and the veterinarians.
• Ensure that foster homes are following the foster manual and make changes to the foster manual (along with the board) as necessary.
• Ensure that all adoptables are getting out to events; facilitate their transportation to events when applicable.
• Track foster home contact information, track in and out dates for the dogs, and arrange for breaks for homes that need them.
• Moderate Foster Home e-group.
• Prepare monthly reports to the board and offer other reports as needed.
Qualifications as Foster Coordinator:
• Ability to listen, think clearly and creatively, problem solve, work well with people individually and in a group, act as cheerleader, mentor, and guide to the foster homes.
• Develop necessary skills (if you do not already possess them) through continuing education, research, reading, etc. for the purpose of staying up-to-date on industry topics, advancing knowledge on dog-specific topics, learning skills related to all varieties of dog behavior
• Possess sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views, a friendly, responsive and patient approach, community-building skills, personal integrity, a developed sense of values, concern for the non-profit’s development and a sense of humor.
